    Default EC-14 on 50-200 vs 70-300

HI i have an E3 with several lens including the 50-200mm. Lately i have been wanting further reach on some sporting shots. I dont have a heap to spend anymore so i am looking at adding an EC-14 to the 50-200 or buying a 70-300. The portability issue does not worry me since i would only take out the 70-300 when i knew i was heading to a sport event. But i acknowledge it might be handy to have the ec14 on call in my bag all the time. Their similar in price on ebay, so i am wondering what in the end would yield the better results.
    Thank you for your input

The 50-200/EC-14 combination is optically superior the 70-300 (plus weather sealed).

if you already have the 50-200 it's a no brainer but if you were atarting from scratch the 70-300 offers a lot of lens for the money and it capable of great image captures.

adding the ec14 to your pocket gives you so much flexibility when shooting many sports. I find myself starting with the ec on the camera and removing it for the second half when light levels are falling (or starting without it in heavy rain and poor light!)

I don't have the 70-300. I do have the 50-200 + 1.4, and use them a lot. My only observation would be that the converter sort of diminishes the wonderful quality of the bokeh on the 50-200. Probably not an issue for sports shooting.
