Default Waning moon with the G1

I have a suspicion that the G1 is going to be a really excellent astro camera. Shooting the moon tonight with it on the telescope was a flat out joy.

Hi, Oly, I am Oly too, do you know the OIC? Just kidding! After saw this awesome photo, I am sure the moon of U.S.A. is more round than Chinese moon like some people realized. Great capture!

I'd really like to see more astro-photography.
This is an outstanding shot and sharp, sharp, SHARP!

    Howdy Jim,

I took that shot using this telescope:

It's a 900mm ED (semi-APO) doublet refractor that has excellent optics for the price (about $1000 new but I got this one used for $500).

A camera mounted on a similar refractor looks something like this:

All that's needed is a telescope mount (the "tripod" in other words) that tracks the movement of the sky (inexpensive mounts such as the one in that second shot are less than $500), a refractor (again - nice ones can be had for less than $500) and a T thread (similar to M42 camera threads) adapter for 4/3rds cameras (available inexpensively in eBay or Amazon).

A telescope such as this has many uses - spotting scope, birding lens, astro photography lens and of course you get to use it as a telescope as well!

    Cheers,
    Oly
