Default Heron nest with two chicks

Our Daughter moved into a new house in an older established heighborhood with lots of 80-100ft. trees. This Heron nest is in their backyard about 80 ft. high. I had to lighted the nest and chicks quite a bit because it's so dark in the tree tops where they'er at. I'll be going back with my FL-50 and Better Beamer attachment to get some better ones.

Nice shot! Look at those birds eyes!

What kind of Herons are they?

I'm not sure Toni. I never saw the mother except for flying over. She's dark in color but not as large as the Grey Heron we have at the lakes around here.

    Nice shot!

I'm reasonably certain that those are black capped night herons.

Thanks for looking and commenting everybody.

Jim: It could be but from what little I could see of the adult I think Leon may be correct.

Leon: I'm going to go back as many times as I can to get an image of the adult. I had the impression of the black crown on it's head so you could be right anout the Black-Crowned Heron Leon.

Mike: Thanks, I manual focused using the live view 10X function.

Very cool, Don. Quite something to have a heron nest in your backyard! Should be a situation custom-made for that beamer.

Thanks Nate. I'm going back over this morning as soon as I finish breakfast and try the Beamer out. I hope to see the adult while I'm there.
