Looks like one of the numerous palaces dotted around in Europe. Is it one of the more famous ones?

Yes, it looks like it is french. Looks very much like L'Hôtel national des Invalides in Paris. Which isn't a hotel, by the way

It is L'Hotel National des Invalides en Paris. In French Canada the town or city hall is often called L'Hotel de Ville, they too have no rooms for rent to the travelling public.

    Over to you

Yes, there are vikings involved. The vikings founded this town - it had another name then.

I know that the Vikings founded Dublin, Ireland, but I have only visited it once (about 23 years ago) and don't remember seeing this building. That doesn't mean it isn't there.

The main reason for you not seeing the building when you visited Dublin, is because we are not in Dublin

Time for some hints, I guess.

This town is where the vikings come from, not where they traveled to.

edit: one of many towns, should I add ...

No, wrong country. The viking ship is a newly-built copy of one in a museum. This is used all summer in this town and this was taken of it in it's winter storage.

The town is also known for a tower on the top of a hill.

Correct country, but too far north.

Hmm. Is this one difficult, or are there a lack of new photos?

I've been busy with some rather pressing family matters. Still on the hunt for your old Vikings.

Lake Station on Isle of Wight. I was there 40 years ago next month, so my recollection could be wrong.
