    Post E-System lives! :)

    http://translate.google.com/translat...01727716.shtml

    Chapter Watanabe:
On the new product plans to disclose here, E Series, a double-digit model number and (E-5 and E-30), we will certainly continue to introduce products, E system is certainly some of the features PEN series can not be achieved. The E series of triple-digit products, we will consider the use of PEN series replaced. PEN series of lenses we will continue to research and development, and 4 / 3 system lenses will not interrupt research and development. PEN series of shots that we think are not enough, the recent focus may be on the PEN series.
Hopefully, good E-5 sales incited Olympus to make a successor to E-30.
I'm interested to see if it will have a new sensor (from the Panasonic G3), if so, it could easily be more advanced camera than the E-5 (will we see E-3 -> E-30 all over again?).
    Cheers,
    Marin

Love my E-30, don't need an E-5 *too heavy*.

I would like the E-system to carry on with features and functions that PEN just can't have, like super-fast AF and perhaps multiple aspect ratio sensor, etc.

If I bought a PEN it would just live with my 14-54 II anyway, so it's just too small for my taste.

    Guessing E-40/50 specs:

    16MP sensor
    FullHD video
    3" tilt screen
similar if not the same body as e-30
    5-7FPS
    AF like in E-5
    more ART filters
    ~$1000-1200 price tag

Besides the E-XX, I would really like to see 2 lenses:

    300mm f4 SWD (drool )
    100mm f2 (or 2.8) macro
    Cheers,
    Marin

    I can, but that's Chinglish.

The E-5 is too rich for my blood, but I might be interested in an E-50 after the prices have come down, as I still have my Zuikos. I'm still undecided as to whether I want to go all Nikon or keep a foot in each camp. If Olympus would release a cheap consumer body, I would definitely want one for my 9-18, 50/2, and 40-150.

It mean Olympus, In Chinese Olympus is a 4 character name and they shortened it into 2 character and Google translated it as Obama.

I'm somewhat confused by the mention of E-30 with the E-5. Maybe they just mean they'll continue to make the E-30. I sure hope it does mean they'll make an E-50 - I'd be all over it! - but I'm trying not to get too hopeful. We shall see...

It was funny to see Obama pop up in the translation. Cute. I am pleased with the E-3 and sure would like to own the E-5 one day. When that might be depends. I think the E-3 was out for two years when B and H had a couple refurbs for under $900.00. New ones were about 1200.00. Now what, pray tell, would I do with an E-1 and an E-3 if I did get the E-5. No, tell me not about backup cameras. I have never needed a backup camera. Never. Lucky me. A backup back would be useful some days, ooph...
Now I tried out the E-30 first and returned. The E-1 somehow spoiled me, intangible details I guess.

Default How likely is a 16mp sensor...

Methinks too soon for 16Mp. It would just wet all over E-5 sales. Too early, and I think more Mp would come in the Pro body. The rumored E-6

Not sure about that - both the E-620 and E-30 came not too long after the E-3 and upped the Mp from 10 to 12.

If Olmypus can get a 16MP version of sensor in Panasonic GH2; then we are in for some good times.

if they could go higher than 12mp they will sure make a new body, but seeing the trend on the e series. seems liike 12mp is the limit for oly.

please dont give up on 4/3rds oly.
why do they keep ignoring people's request about prime lens thats one of the reason why people dont buy oly. thats why they are in deep hole now a days.
    -faster af
    -prime lens
will boost sales oly come on! lets do it

    m4/3rds cant replace 4/3.

This is where I sit as well. An upgraded E-30 with the E-5's image quality and dynamic range would be enough for me. Skip the video and get it on the street!

    Cheers,

I agree, Rick. If they up the MP, it'll probably have more noise. I'd rather have the image quality, etc of the E-5 than a few more MP. Not so sure about what the market wants, however (with 18MP Canon T3is for competition, you have to wonder).

Some interesting technology showing up in some of Oly's advanced point and shoot cameras. Wonder how long before it migrates to the Pens and E-series.

Oly uses their lower range cameras as a testing ground for the pro bodies. They may release a higher MP lower end body then clean up the noise more for a later pro body.

There was no mention of date for a possible E30 replacement, in which case it mightn't be too soon by the time it comes out & as mentioned by tomsi42, the E30 & E620 are an example of lower models following on from the E3 with newer features & sensor.

Not necessarily - the GH2 with 16MP is around 1.5 stops cleaner than the GF1 which has a 12MP sensor.

Well I love my E-30, to the extent I think I'd like a backup body at some point. If my existing E-30 could be that backup body to a new, up to date E-XX, that would be nice. The E-5 is tempting but the E-30 is as big as I'd like to go.
