Default Sigma 50mm F1.4 for FT .. Any thoughts ?

I've been thinking of getting the Sigma 50mm F1.4 as walk about /portrait lens and was wondering if anyones ever had one and whether its worth getting. I have the beastie/35-100F2 but just want something a wee bit smaller and so far the Sigma appeals and pricewise it hits the mark. Whats the bokeh like, contrast, build quality and focusing like and how well does it compare to the 35-100F2 at 50mm ?

    Cheers

I've been using it on my friend's 5Dmk2 and it's great on that camera, good for low light and shallow DoF you simply can't get on 43rds.

If the focus is spot on, it can give excellent IQ.

You might want to get ZD 50mm macro instead, it's got much less issues with AF and accuracy and it's made for 43rds not FF, it's also smaller and lighter, weather sealed and great for macro.

For shallow DoF work and portraits, you might want to check Rokinon/Samyang 85mm f1.4

I had one for a while. Not very sharp at f1.4 and I didn't find the bokeh that pleasing, but I didn't use it that much. I found myself reaching for other lenses and preferred the Zuiko 50 MM f2.0 macro. You can pick one of those up for about the same price, and it's smaller, lighter, and better than the Sigma 50. The only thing better (besides the obvious - the wider aperture) about the Sigma 50 vs. the Zuiko 50 is low light AF performance, which it doesn't sound like you need. Here's a shot with the Sigma 50MM f1.4 at f1.6: http://www.gmfotography.com/blog/wp-..._Lilly_058.jpg

I have one that I bought from one of our members. I use it in and out of the studio and I love it. It stays on one of my E5s at all events and portraits. I also have the Oly 50 macro but only use it for product work.

I heard ex oly shooter saying it was by far his most favourite lens. He loved bokeh and narrow dof.
I have 30mm 1.4 and although not sharp at 1.4 it covers other bases well (auto focus and focus speed) n
