Default Latest m4/3 sensors beat new Leica FF sensor.

A very interesting posting today over at 4/3 rumors:

    "
MFT sensor better than the $5,500 Leica FF sensor!

Today DxOmark (Click here) published the full Leica M-E test results and the 18MP Full Frame sensor cannot match the newest MFT sensor quality. A pretty good result if you consider the price of the Leica M-E ($5,500 here at Amazon). Do you still want Panasonic/Olympus to go Full Frame? "

The M-E is a stripped down M-9, so the older CCD sensor design. Its the new M (Typ 240) that has a modern CMOS sensor design.

My take on the DXO tests is that they are like horsepower measurements for cars taken straight from the motor. So they tell a part of the story. But at the same time tells nothing at all ...

Or, I guess you could say the the 2012 4/3rds CMOS sensor finally caught up to the 2009 Kodak CCD M9 sensor? Because as is pointed out above, the M-E is an M9 without a frame preview lever or micro USB port and a different paint job. And technically, the Kodak CCD sensor technology used in the M9 is older than that; it's the same technology that was used in the M8 when it was introduced in late 2006, just deployed in a larger sensor for the M9 in late 2009.

Actually over in Leicaland, the debate is raging about whether or not the new M-240's CMOSIS sensor is really "better" than the M9's Kodak CCD from an IQ perspective.

The bottom line remains that in sizes smaller than a 24"x36" poster, no one can tell me what camera with which lens made any particular image.

Oh, btw, yes I switched from 4/3rds to Leica FF (the M9P) but my decision didn't have anything to do with image quality or sensor size.

I took out gh-3 and put the 5d instead...cant believe how good that sensor is (probably still better then omd's) and it came out in 2005 !

    LOL!

I still like what the 2003 Olympus E-1 sensor does with images. Compared to the E-M5 sensor, it was manufactured with stone knives and bear's claws.
Makes no difference whatever if it produces the photos I love. :-)

    it is important
sensor performance would be the prime reason 43rds fell behind
IOW with a new sensor 43rds would live again,

but by now some assurances about the formats longevity might be another aspect
and for the western world that means in english, in plain language

quite honestly, the format seems to be growing gangbusters.
it's just that the camera type has changed from SLR to Electronic TTL.
