Having fun with the Olympus 15mm f/8 lens-in-a-cap

I got my 15mm f/8 last week (A friend bought it in US when he was there). Having used it out for a few days now; I felt I should write a few words and show some photos.

It is basically a lens-cap with a small lens in the middle (three elements in the construction). The aperture is fixed at f/8 and focus is manual. This is done by using a small lever at the bottom of the lens (much like the good old Olympus XA). There is three click-stops, one at the hyper-focal distance (everything from 4ft/1.6m to infinity in focus), one at infinity and one where there is a cover in front of the lens.

It vignettes quite a lot, and both the Panasonic G3 and Olympus E-P1 tends to underexpose quite a bit; but that could be caused by the sun and snow. But the sharpness in the center is not too bad.

Went to the coast today and found that this lens fitted the grey weather.

Thanks, Daniel. It looks like the lens is better suited to moody situations than the crystal clear sunny days I too enjoy popping on a simple lens and go.

As I said in the previous post, the lens suits the moody and gloomy better than the sunny. But that didn't stop me in taking these sunny photos

I got one of these a few weeks ago and it's now the standard lens I keep on the E-PL1 (bought used and very cheap). I often fit a 28mm OVF to the camera too. Makes a nice, small, light snap-about.
It's a fine performer for what it is, a simple triplet. Can't knock it.

Nice viewfinder - what make is it? I often use the Olympus one (for 17mm); using the whole frame instead of the framing lines.

That's the Ricoh GV-2 (I think that's the right model). It has markings for 2:3 and 3:4 format, nice optics. :-)

I use it for candid street photography, using the touch-screen for exposure.
