    Default Big Discount on a 300mm f2.8

Deals on this lens do not materialize very often, so I thought I would post it here.

Cameta Camera (an online dealer whom I whole-heartedly recommend) has a factory demo 300mm with a full Olympus warranty available for $4,999.00 (that's a cool $2,000.00 off regular list price). I don't think that prices will stay at that low level if Olympus does in fact introduce an E-5 successor in six weeks.

BTW, Cameta also has some pretty incredible deals on micro4/3 packages on their site right now.

Interesting. That lens was NOT out of stock when I first looked at it (I received a Cameta email flyer yesterday). They must have had only one.

Congrats, David, on getting the 90-250mm. It is a great feeling when you get the whole SHG range under your control. I honestly cannot say which lens I like the best, but I do know that the 300mm gets by far the most use (far more than the 90-250mm), but that is mostly because of my subject matter. The SHGs really do cover the entire range any photographer could ever want, except maybe a long macro (which in my view is adequately covered off by the 50mm+EC20.

If Olympus puts out its new model with an improved sensor, I am an officially satisfied Olympus lifer. I think no other camera/optics company even comes close to the price/quality experienced offered by this amazing range of lenses at that price. I know they are expensive, but they are actually a bargain compared to anything with a red dot or for that matter anything manufactured in Europe with a venerable name like Zeiss.

Just curious, but what did you end up paying for the 90-250 if you don't mind my asking. (I have one and have been thinking about selling as it doesn't get used that often)

    Thanks, Jim

    That's a great price David. I paid $4,250 for mine in 2007.

No - I don't regret the extra $450.00. That was 6 great years of great shooting ago. I figure I will get at least 10-12 more years of great shooting, maybe more.

So, $4250 /18 years = $236.00/year. However, if I sell it for $1500.00 after that, that's only $152.00 per year, or one annual fancy-schmancy dinner out with the better half.

    She understands. ;-)))

From another point of view, I think the value of Oly lenses lies in HG range. 12-200 in two lenses is amazing value*quality/price.
