Default where did Daniel Bradley's posts go?

I was looking for some of Daniel's posts but can't find any of the originals. It's like he has been deleted. I'm sure it's a tech glitch.

Also heard from Daniel that he can't log in. Very odd.

Yes, heard that as well, and looked upon one post I know he wrote just few days ago, and it too was gone. Very very strange. I surely hope it's a technical glitch.

In the tablet forum I moderate, if he can't log in that may mean he was accidentally banned. If that's the case, someone will have to contact Admin to get it resolved.

He hasn't been banned. I checked. DavidH202 is in the same boat. We've sent emails to admin but no reply so far.

The "where is this" thread has shortened from 238 pages to 192 pages which gives an idea of how much they have contributed. Daniel did post after my last one there and I was surprised to see his disappear.

    Hi All,

We are still investigating this. We are trying to determine if there has been a compromise of the system or whether there is a database error. Unfortunately at this time it does not appear that we will be able to recover the posts that have been deleted, but we will try our best.

Please for those that have contact with the users who's accounts have been removed, let them know that it was not due to them doing anything wrong and at this time the best course of action would be to signup for a new account. Please have them PM us if they were paid members and we will re-instate their membership.

I will keep you updated with any progress we have.

    Regards,
    Emily

Thanks for your trouble, Emily. Maybe we were hacked. As long as someone hasn't hacked my bank account and made off with my hard earned inheritance....

Never a junior member! I don't think that designation could fit.

It's a very strange thing that two members (at least) could be completely expunged from the system without any other damage being done.

I think it was all because the powers that be thought you were cheating by racking up thousands of posts when of course half or them were by Elaine!

    Welcome back.

As far as "the game" is concerned I think the rest of us are the winners because none of our answers to the Bradley pictures have gone but the Bradley answers to our pictures have gone so it the rest of us who can repost some of our old pictures.

I was able to re-register using the same user name and password as before. However, as you may have noticed, all my posts and pictures from the time I joined have disappeared.
I just got this PM from David (davidh202, now dh202):
"I'm still dead in the water!!! no response from anyone no apology or reply from Emily!?, can't
post, everything for 6 years gone, I am so p***** it isn't funny!!!!!"
He asked me to pass this on.
Seems our cyber world is a bit fragile.....

Seems our cyber world is a bit fragile.....
    ^ Exactly.
    Very fragile.

Having too many backups is a bit like having too many friends, or too much good health.

I will concede that it is possible to have too much money - just look at our lovely Gina Rinehart here in Oz. She could afford to give each of her estranged children $100M and not even notice the difference. What does she do? She spends a goodly part of her life fighting them in court ... So yeah, it is possible to have too much money - More than is good for one!

    Back to backups.
My brother periodically asks me how much warning a HDD gives before it fails. My reply is invariably "Sometimes a couple of microseconds" ...
Worst case was in front of my very eyes. Nothing in the OS error logs; SMART was enabled, and had given no warnings of any description. It was a "good quality", brand name HDD.

So. My backup strategy consists of copying all my data and image files to external HDDs. After each card is finished, I back it up to DVDR - Burn with Nero with VERIFY switch on (burning without verify is next to pointless; a waste of time, IMNSHO ... ); then run Nero SCANDISC on the burned DVD; then attempt to read the DVD in another computer using FastStone Viewer (FSV will throw an error if it can't read a DNG or JPEG file). If all that completes satisfactorily, I can then wipe that card and return it to use.

Apart from the 3 TB of internal storage in my main w/s, I also have 3x 3.5" external HDDs (1x 1TB; 1x 2TB and 1x 3TB); and 3x 2.5" portable externals that live in my three camera bags (that is, one of these is always with me as off-site backup when no one is home ... ).
At least one of the desktop drives lives in a relatively fireproof safe when not in use. I also have a copy of all my JPEGs on my laptop HDD.
None of these external HDDs is ever left plugged in to either data or power leads unless actually being used for backup, or for checking. I run Windows CHKDSK on them all periodically.

If you have ever lost data, you will understand that my strategy is not rampant paranoia; but rather sensible precaution against the ephemeral nature of electronic data storage.

Same goes for a web site like this.
