Call it GAS, but I couldn't help myself. Pre-ordered at Adorama, and apparently you can get a mail in rebate for the adaptor which looks like has to be purchased separately. Nice to see it up at all the places, guessing I'll get it sometime in October.

Looking forward to the new toy

Having morning coffee and just read the e-mail from Olympus. Now that some of the "fog" is clear I'm intrigued. I'll let the early adopters play first before deciding.

    Looking forward to your commentary.

Well the press release states new sensor, thanks Olympus that certainly moves it up on my upgrade list.

Cool, make sure you post how it does with the 300MM and 50-200 with and without the converters on AF and especially C/AF TR.. your gonna love the IQ of the higher ISO's I am sure if it will actually AF you will be happy, did you get it with any lens? if not you should get a few M4/3rds lenses, it is handy to carry around thats for sure.. the 75-300 is actually a pretty good lens, but even it has a lot of trouble AF on birds in distance or flying anyway

Will definitely do that. It should be great. I did not get any lens with it, as I'm very happy with all of my lenses. One purchase at a time ). I got the 12-60 and really enjoy that, and will just use all of these on adaptors. My only fear (and this seems aleviated with other posts) is that it somehow will be sluggish with an adaptor, as 90% of the time I'm using my 2x tele and big tuna. I'm anxious to try that set-up, and to see how it does in autofocus on birds in flight. The biggest thing for me is being able to go higher ISOs, because I need all the speed I can get with birds. I ordered from Adorama and have had good luck with them before. I'm guessing they are about the same size as BH and most of the larger places like that get shipments at the same time from Olympus. It'll be fun.

Well seems to be conflicting information regarding AF and even less information regarding C-AF. Since Olympus has never been good at C-AF I don't hold out much hope but willing to be surprised. Not going to pre-order this. I'll wait until it's available to rent then give it a good workout.

I hope it works out well for you, PadrePaul. I'm not certain if the EC-14 and EC-20 are supported by the MMF mount adapters, though. They weren't in the past, although that was most likely a body limitation and not and issue of the adapter itself.

The review by Pekka Potka has images using the 150 + ec 14...

They have the camera in the simulator if you want to see what it looks like with your lenses. Four Thirds | Special Contents | Matching Simulation

It's not too bad when you add the grip to it. That's definately needed for the bigger 4/3 lenses. Not necessarily with the SG or smaller HG lenses.

Too bad Olympus (or Panasonic) doesn't make an adapter and TC all in one. Would make the "stack" stronger and minimize electrical connections.

@Steve - that idea of a combo MMF/EC is great, but I fear that the sales volume would not be high enough to justify the R&D.

I just pre-ordered the E-M1, 12-40, and HLD7 from my local Shutterbug. I am first on their list. I think the big stores will get shipments first, but I'm betting that being #1 at the local store may still be faster than being #200 at B&H or the others, which are likely being flooded with calls today. Also, I like to support my local store, since the price is fixed anyway.

If you have the EM5 you can see how the EM1 compares size wise. Compare camera dimensions side by side

I like the slightly larger size. I handled the EM5 in store and it was small for me. I can see myself getting the EM1 and grip to replace the E3. This is the first m4/3 camera to come close to that for me.

I'm interested to see what you have to say. Don't have the expendable funds right now for the new body but it'll likely be on my list. My 150 f/2 and my newly repaired 50-200 SWD would like a better sensor, please.

(speaking of the latter, that $60 extended warranty ended up being well worth it, I only had a few months left on it).

Olympus, in the E-M5 FAQ, advises to not use either the TCs or the extension tube, but does not say why. As it turns out, they do in fact work, correctly, and one is left wondering why the recommendation? My theory, since Oly is mute, is they're concerned about the mechanics of stacked accessories. After all, you're going from one lens-camera connection to three.

My advice to µ4/3 shooters is go ahead but do so in a way that doesn't apply leverage on the stack. I've used the 150+EC14 on the E-M5 and other than the poky focus speed, it works perfectly.

    Cheers,

    Rick

Good to know the teleconverter will work OK with the adaptor - if not that would be a bit of a buzz kill and it would probably be sent back.

The rebate is good for 1 eligible accessory through Dec 31. The adapter is $180 from Olympus ($200 elsewhere), so that seems like a pretty good deal to me. Amazon has the camera too and it's eligible for Prime. They say it will be available Oct 14, but they also say they don't expect to be able to meet demand with the first shipment.

Quite a camera, the new E-M1. Pekka Potka said: "Combining FT and mFT lens systems together in a body which focuses both systems better than any FT body or mFT body so far is quite an achievement. Suddenly there are 65 perfectly functioning lenses to choose from for this camera in mFT and FT systems. Some of those lenses are arguably the best for any brand. There are no more situations where FT/mFT photographer needs really to feel limited by focusing speed or lens quality."

Yes I have used both the EC14 and EC20 on my EM5 with the 150MM 50-200 and 50MM lenses, they work fine, and dont AF any worse than the lomger 4/3rds lenses alone in my opinion(that isnt saying much), but in Manual focus they work fine
Bugs me that everyone says to get the grip so it feels like a fuller sized body... why not just make me one!

Looks like a great body. If I didn't have the E-M5 and if I we hadn't dropped a boatload remodeling our kitchen I'd probably be pre-ordering. Congrats!

With the conflicting yeah/nay reports on autofocus, I am leery, but tempted.

I thought that early pre-orders were going to qualify for the "free" grip and adaptor in the package. Is that only Oly-Europe? I can't seem to find it anywhere in NA. Am I imagining I saw this?

It is hard to justify the otherwise very nice looking f2.8 12-40mm when I have a perfectly workable f2.0 14-35mm.

I sure wish it was the grip instead of adapter.. I already have an adapter, dont need a flash either... but I guess I have to buy a adapter if its gonna end up free.. sell off my used one I guess to get some money back.

did they say any expected ship dates?

As best as I can tell in the States the launch deal is either/ or, adapter/ FL300 flash. No mention of the accessory grip as an option. In UK and I think Europe, the launch deal includes the grip.

I'm remaining on the fence until full reports on both the camera and 12-40. Best pricing on the lens will always be with a bundled body but for now it's a pig in a poke--is it Spam or delicious bacon? (I'll be comparing it against the 12-60, not the 14-35.)

    Cheers,

    Rick
