One mad hummer & others

So I picked up an E-5 over the summer haven't had much time with it yet. Not much bird action over here in the summer when its 108 F most birds leave for cooler climate. Its cooling down now so its almost time for them to come back. The hummers stay year round so here is a few.

A bit bright on my monitor but Great Captures..

My only nitpick is wrong angle to show the colors of the males gorget.

Nice Mike, my last hummer left on the 29th of Sept, the adults left the 9th, 4 youngs ones stayed behind and left one by one till the last week of Sept.. got lots of pics of them this year. mostly using same lens combos as yours here
what were your settings?

Thanks Don! I really struggle with With male hummers cant ever seem to get them right. I will have to calibrate my monitor haven't done it in about 6 months. I see that the sensor on my spyder 2 calibrator has fallen behind my desk lol.

They were all hand held probably aperture priority or manual mode with the Fl-50r on a flash bracket mount high above and to the right or left of the lens.
1. 1/60 f5 iso 200
2. 1/80 f4 iso 400
3. 1/200 f4 iso 400
4. 1/200 f5.6 iso 200
5. 1/250 f2.8 iso 200
6. 1/200 f4 iso 200
7. 1/250 f2.8 iso200

just a matter of how the feathers are, even in full sun they look black at certain angles.. hard to catch them when its coming thru nicely I find its more apt to be seen shooting from an angle then straight on in full sun, but I think its more how they have their feathers ruffled to get that iridescence to show, then you have to watch out for blown highlights its so bright sometimes

Mine start showing up late April, Males first the females start showing up within a week after the males usually.. then the males leave first week Sept and not sure if females go to or just the young stay behind, most of the young female ones look like adult females at that time, but easy to tell young males..

August is the best, I have a dozen or so flying around my yard and they are at the feeders and flowers all day long

Thanks Don! Yeah they will sit there for awhile, but they are always twitching and looking around for a fight. When a male see an adult the chase is on, they seem to leave the young ones alone tho. Its pretty comical to watch. They will almost let you reach out and touch them. You Probably only need 50mm most of the time.
