Default Need good remote timer for E-5 to shoot star trails

I am getting very frustrated...have now ordered two wired interval timers for my E-5 and one was dead out of the box and the other is so friggin confusing that this old man will never be able to use it....

    Requirements needed:

    1. Wired remote trigger - simple for macro and long exposures
    2. Interval timer to shoot so many shots at various time increments - ie) 120 shots - every 3 minutes - camera on manual - just take a shot at cameras settings every 3 minutes or 5 minutes or every hour etc. I want to be able to shoot some start trail shots.
    3. Wireless remote capabilities would be nice, but not required.

If anyone has one they are currently using, it would be appreciated. I see a bunch online with the mini-USB connector but the E-5 requires the screw on 3 prong connector.

Thanks all help would be appreciated.

    Maybe you could use TriggerTrap:

    http://triggertrap.com/products/trig...s/for-olympus/

It works for Olympus, as you can see with the link. Good luck and let us know if this works for you.

    Edit:
Here's a pretty good YouTube video about its use (not for Olympus, but it would be the same):

Great idea, but I am old school and only have a dumb cell phone and refuse to get a smartphone....

I'm pretty oldschool myself and also don't have a smartphone. However, all you need to use this is any kind of a tablet (does NOT have to be one with a cellphone 3G or 4G plan; you just buy a WiFi device). Say one like mine, a Lenovo A8-50, which costs $140. Of course, buying such a thing to use Triggertrap would be silly, but tablets are very useful in their own right (surf the web, emailing, using apps like triggertrap, check the weather, tides, read books, etc). Just an idea.

I should have mentioned how a tablet can be useful for a photograpgher:

    1) read your images from the memory card into the tablet and store them there
    2) look at your images on an 8" or 10" screen instead of the back of the camera
    3) look at the actual images, not just the thumbnail as you do with the back of the camera
    4) control a Nikon or Canon DSLR from the tablet (as you can with Olympus Capture and a laptop)

In other words, a tablet is a small laptop.

Vello Wireless Shutterboss. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...er_Remote.html Not cheap but a lot of flexibility. I have one that I have bought additional cables for. By swapping out the cables (4 total for the cameras I have) I can use it on any of my Olympus cameras or my Nikon cameras. It can also be used as a wireless or a wired controller.

Sorry, the one I listed is for most of the Olympus cameras but the one you need for the E-5 is this one. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...ase_Cable.html

Thanks for this suggestion, I think I am going to get one myself.

I didn't have a remote trigger before because I couldn't be bothered with carrying one. I had one for my DSLR but never used it. If I have to carry just a wire that plugs into my phone, that's a deal!

Great. I figured even if Jim (Wigpro) wasn't interested, someone else might be.

I have used one like this for a few years and love it. It will work on any system with the right cable. It can be used wired or wireless.

Just wanted to let you know, I got the trigger. Works perfectly with an iPhone 4, only thing I wish is the cord was longer. Haven't had a non-cloudy night since getting it, so I haven't used it for star trails, but other than that it seemed to work well.

That's good to know, Edmunds. I have seen some complaints about incompatibility with certain equipment, especially Android (but of course that wouldn't affect the iphone). You'll probably get a clear night fairly soon, but then it will be minus 5 degrees...
