How far do you have to drive to get there?
Like the first and last shots best.

Yes Daniel but you have time to set up a nice composition.
    45 minutes drive.
    Cheers,

Was just a test to see how well the 400 auto-focuses in the fog...

Thanks Guy. The old girl still has plenty left.
I had to crop the E-M1 shots, very little for the gull ones, and the high contrast light was harder work for the smaller camera.

    Thanks for commenting Mike.
Shooting the gannets is getting harder these days, due to the huge increase in the numbers of tourist buses around now.
On this shoot I had to wait some time for my preferred position, which varies according to the wind direction. Now I don't mind that, because I have no more extra rights than anyone else, but what I find now is that when I get there, I'm jostled and pushed by the selfie mob! Our more traditional tourists were/are always polite and friendly. Not so much now from the burgeoning numbers from the new territories. I do rigidly hold my own though!
    Cheers,
    Don

Gannets staying for the next month or so Don?

As others have said, always like seeing your Gannet photos!

Were they to close for the 400mm?

    ~Cheers~

Hi Ron, no they are still producing chicks, and will fly off to Australia after Easter I think.
I had gannet pics from the Canon as well, but I was really there to test the HSilent mode on the E-M1. It worked pretty well.
    Cheers,
    Don

a Canon/Gannet shot of a bird stumbling over another to take off. It was a very strong wind blasting up the cliff face, and flight was not that pretty!

Its like that over here also. I fix appliances for a living and get sent to Yosemite Valley once in awhile to fix a dishwasher, a microwave or something. Its a 4 hr drive one way for me.
Last time I was there I saw two Photographers get into a fight just to get the best position for a shot of Half Dome funnest thing I seen in a long time. Cameras and lenses flying everywhere, and tripods used as weapons.
All I want to do is get in and out of that place as fast as I can and them dam tour buses are always in my way. Errrrr I hate that place.........
