Has image size hugely increased on the site??

It used to be that my photos (uploaded from my computer at 1200 px on a side) came in small, and then a viewer clicked on them to enlarge them somewhat to a couple of larger sizes. Now, has that totally changed? They come straight in and are huge. I can only see 2/3 of the image on my laptop. And, at 1200 pixels, that is not going to look good, compared to those posted full resolution from full-resolution storage such as at Smugmug, Facebook, etc.
At least, this is what I think is happening. Is that accurate?

The images should resize depending on your computer screen size and always only take up a portion of the screen. If its not doing that, then its a bug

I'll open up an older laptop and check what is going on.

On my PC, a 1200px image takes up less than 2/3 of the screen. On a Dell or Apple 5K screen its only 1/4 of the screen. So you can image what those thumbnails looked like on larger screen - they were literally thumbnails. We need to embed large images for people with larger screens, and then resize those images automatically if a smaller screen size is used. This should be happening now, but I guess there is something wrong in the coding of the layout or some other mistake I've made. I'll have a look at it now.

I believe I've fixed the bug and images should not be flowing over your screen anymore, but resizing correctly to your screen size.

Thanks for trying, but there's no change. I just uploaded a photo and posted a new 1200 pixel image. It's still huge.

I see... the problem is height, not width.

OK, well, I have no idea how to solve this in vbulletin so for now I've reverted back to thumbnails, but I've made them much larger.

I've also gone ahead and updated the JPEG file maximum width. People can now upload images larger than 1200, so that clicking on the thumbnail on larger screens gets you a larger picture.

That helps. So, now, we can go larger than 1200 px. Is there a maximum?

The maximum is 5000px, so for purposes of m4/3 there isn't one, but you may want to resize pictures to make uploading easier.

Scratch that, I just tried uploading a full size 10MB picture from a slower connection, and it looks like the upload fails without an error message. The inner workings of this forum software are mysterious. Its not the file dimensions that make the upload fail (I tried uploading a 5000 pixel image that is small, and it worked), but the large file sizes and the time it takes to upload a large file.

So I went ahead and decreased the maximum pixel size to 2000 pixels. This should still be plenty, even for larger screens
