Default My Zuko 50-200 SWD Lens Will no Longer Auto-Focus

Haven't used it much in the last couple of years, but pulled it out today and there is no auto-focus. I can hear the faint hum of the motor, but nothing. Manual focus works just fine. Any recommendations on where to get this thing fixed and how much it might it cost? The lens is is mint condition otherwise.

Maybe I'll just sell it - any idea what it would be worth in this condition?

    Thanks!

    Tom

Try some basic stuff first like making sure it was seated properly on the camera body and cleaning the contacts. Do you have another body you can try it on? You can get rates for repair by contacting Olympus. It's a great lens and probably not worth much in non working condition. If it was me, I would have it repaired.

As a general rule, Oly charges about 30% of the retail of the lens for a repair. I had a similar issue with my 50-200 back in the pre-micro days when it was still in production, and I paid $325.

It's a fantastic lens that still fetches about $600 used and working, so the repair would be worth it.

Go to the Olympus official repair website at http://www.oiaservice.com and you can get a firm fixed price quote for your repair. I had my 12-60mm lens repaired by them last year and they did a good job and shipped it back to me in about two weeks.

I also had my 12-60 repaired by Olympus here in Ontario - The quote was for $300.00 and it came in at $285.00 with taxes etc -
The turnaround was the better part of 5 weeks and it has a 90 day warranty -
I am pleased with the service as the lens is still holding its value-

I also would say, get it repaired by Oly. I sent mine in a year or two ago and got the lens refurbished back. Now I am very happy with it even on the E-M1. The glass is good and gives some excellent photos. I always pair it with the EC14 which gives a 280mm reach and is not too dim..

    cheers,

Sometimes is only some dust on the contacts what is causing the problem.

Clean it with alcohol and some cotton, I had the same issue a few times.

Had the same issue once. The SWD motors needed to be replaced. When switching to m4/3 I bought the E-M1 just so that I could continue to use the 50-200mm. It works great but still I long for the M.Z 300 f4.
