Moving file from E-510 to iPad

I'm thinking of moving into the world of iPads and need to know how I'd move files from my E-510 to the iPad. I know the iPad needs an attachment and I know there's one to read SD cards, but is there one the will let me transfer via USB cable the way I do to my laptop? This is the last hurdle I need to overcome before I take the plunge. I originally went with the Toshiba Thrive because of its ISB port, but it's become too outdated and I'm ready to move on. Thanks for any help.

I normally copy all files to my computer, to sort them, delete unnecessary ones, do post processing, etc.

Afterwards, in order to get the files to iPad I sync the files using iTunes. Just go into iTunes, open your iPad, and go to pictures. You'll then be able to select which folders in My Pictures you want synced.

Thanks, but I want to go directly from the E-510 to the iPad, not through my laptop. I know Apple sells a Lightning-2-USB cable, but all the information I've seen talks about exporting photos from the iPad to a USB drive or computer, not the other way around. They also sell a Lightening-2-USB 3 Camera Adapter that I think will work, but the question has been asked on the Apple site with no answers yet.

Thanks, laingjd. I assume the item in the first link is to the Lightning2USB cable I mentioned. The E-510 uses a large CF card, so the adapter in the 2nd link won't work for me. It seems to me the adapter I linked to would work best and future-proof me if I get a different camera or need to connect a device with a micro-USB cable. It has both a USB 3.0-compatible port and a micro-USB port. I guess the answer is that there is a way for me to connect my E-510 to the iPad to move my photos to the iPad. I don't have an iPad yet, but I'm considering the 12.9" Pro model with a BT keyboard to replace my laptop.

I use an iPad Pro and I think you'll like it. Very nice device. Get as much memory as you can afford. It helps.

I saw instructions somewhere on loading pics from camera to iPad and if I can find them I will post in this thread.

Do you use the 12.9" or the 9.7"? I'm not really an Apple fan, but I'm tired of Android tablets and if I buy another tablet it will be an iPad. My last 2 hang-ups are FastStone Image Viewer and model railroad design software that don't have apps.

I don't see why the first-linked item (Lightning to USB) wouldn't work. One of the user reviews says, "The Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter works perfectly...so this adapter is not only for connecting "Camera's" to your iPad - it can be used to connect a wide variety of peripherals that you want connected to your iPad or iPhone." From what I read there, there might be a power problem, with the iPad not being able to power the peripheral, but your camera has a battery of its own (unlike say an external harddrive), so I would think it should work.

Edit: I would think that another potential problem, even if you get the connection to work, is the internal memory available in the iPad. Obviously you need enough iPad storage to hold the entire camera's images, or you are going to have to do multiple device swaps (offloading from the iPad to say a flash drive, etc). A real pain.

I specifically bought an Android tablet that allows me to insert an additional micro-SD memory card to add memory to it; this enabled me to boost the internal memory to a pretty significant 128GB. With that, I can copy multiple camera cards-worth of data to the tablet (using an OTG cable - similar to Lightning) without worrying about running out of tablet storage.

Thanks for the comments Rich. Storage is initially why I bought the Thrive with the USB and SD Card slots. However, I'd buy the 256GB iPad Pro and I currently have 77 GB of photos, most of which need to be gone through and discarded or at least moved completely to external storage. I guess I should have read the reviews instead of the questions and I'd have seen all these solutions will work. I do have a USB drive for backup and it has it's own power source, so that's not an issue.

My old eyes with bifocals make things difficult sometimes on the 15" laptop, so I really think I need to consider the 12.9" iPad. I'd consider a 4th Android tablet, but there's virtually no market for trade-ins like there is for iPads and I'd want to keep up with upgrades. The Thrive got orphaned and the 2 Samsungs are only 7" and slow. There's nothing really wrong with the laptops, just getting too heavy/large to move around during our travels and they both need new batteries. I have a 4th gen iPod (B&W screen circa 2004) that still runs all night on its original battery and I use it almost every night.
