OM-D M10 Presets

I have an Olympus PEN PL5 and am considering upgrading to OMD M10 1 or 2. I am wondering if any of these cameras have the option of setting a group settings presets that allow you to set Aperture/Shutter speed and ISO as a preset and a different Aperture/shutter speed/ iso and another preset such that you could quickly switch between the two, maybe via one of the dials. I thought I would be able to discover this via internet search. But, either I am not using correct terms or the functionality does not exist.


We shoot the kids on stage indoors and the rapidly changing scenes, lighting and movement of subjects makes it difficult to change settings quickly.

For the E-m10 mark I and II, you want to look up "myset" in the manual. In the E-m10 mark I or II, you could have 4 different mysets. You could program different buttons to switch to a myset or via a menu item.

The E-PL5 has similar mysets, so you might want to try it out with your current camera.

and page 58 in PEN PL5 Manual

Both are accessible under Menu --> Camera 1 --> Reset/MySet

I use mysets with my E-m10 and like them. From what I have read, they have been eliminated from the e-m5II and e-m1II, so stick with the e-m10 (1 or 2).

Good to know. I guess that suggests they will not be included in the M10 mark 3. I wonder why. It seems to me such an essential feature. Maybe it has bugs or not implemented as well as they would like. Perhaps we should give feedback to Olympus.

I don't own an E-m1 mark II, but in checking out the manual, page 35 mentions that the E-m1 mark II has 3 custom modes, that are essentially mysets. You can rotate the dial to C1/C2/C3 to use those presets. So, they didn't eliminate the concept, just renamed it, and presumably fine tuned it a bit.

Thanks for the clarification, Michael. I should also mention that it seems that the EM5II still has Mysets, so my post above was mostly wrong! Rule of thumb - read reviews before you purchase!

I believe the big difference between the traditional myset implementation and the new custom mode implementation is that myset just sets all of the options other than the mode, whereas the new custom modes also sets the mode. So in addition to ISO, white balance, metering mode, etc. you can select say aperture priority, shutter speed priority, manual mode or the various art filters as part of the custom mode. Also custom modes makes more sense than the made up word "myset". I don't tend to use mysets, so it is more the sense that I got from reading the manual.

I use the mysets for radically different shooting modes. However, I wish Olympus allowed one to give the mysets meaningful descriptions. My memory just isn't that good.

I agree. I have to keep a little hand-written "cheatsheet" in my camera bag, just to remember what each Myset does and whether I have it assigned to a mode dial position or not.
